The following two paragraphs were extracted from
the Lutheran Church of The Redeemer by-laws.
There shall be a FINANCE COMMITTEE, of which the Treasurer shall be a member ex officio. It shall prepare a draft budget for the succeeding year, including the congregation's full indicated share in support of the ministry being carried on by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the synod, submit it to the Congregation Council for its action and later presentation to the congregation for its approval. The committee shall exercise oversight of all the financial affairs of the congregation to make sure they are being conducted efficiently, giving particular attention to the prompt payment of all obligation and to the regular forwarding of benevolence moneys to the synodical treasurer. It shall, subject to approval of the Congregation Council, be responsible for the congregation's investments and its total insurance program.
There shall be a STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE. This committee shall encourage all members to a higher level of proportionate giving to the Lord's work. An every member visitation (when) deemed necessary, shall be organized by this committee
The term "proportionate giving" does not apply strictly to financial matters. There are many faces of stewardship, financial being only one. Every Sunday service requires ushers and greeters. Serving as an usher or a greeter falls under the definition of stewardship. There are dinners, luncheons for funerals, Daniel's Closet, rummage sales and other activities.
